Stewardship as an APS Value

Changes are being proposed to the Public Service Act 1999 (the Act) that will help the APS better serve the Government, the Parliament, and the Australian community into the future. We want your help to shape one of the proposed changes – to add a new APS Value of stewardship to the Act.

The APS Values are the fundamental principles that guide the thinking, decisions, actions and behaviours of APS employees at every level. Stewardship will sit alongside the existing APS Values of:

  • Impartial
  • Committed to Service
  • Accountable
  • Respectful
  • Ethical

We ran an open consultation process to seek your help in defining stewardship. More than 1,500 people responded to the survey. Thank you for having your say on what stewardship means to you. The APS Reform Office is using your responses to inform the development of the new APS Value of Stewardship, to be enshrined in the Act.
